PICTOGRAM PROCESS ASSIGNMENT
Why Am I Learning This?
Because I SAY SO, now shut u-- actually, it's because everyday, designers face a myriad of
choices and design decisions. Practicing what professional designers face will make you less
apprehensive and more confident in your abilities to solve problems which come your way. If
you can visualize the process, the solutions will expose themselves naturally. Your job is to
capture them visually using one design style (Cartoon, Pictograms, Silhouettes, Symbols).

Here's the task...
(100 points for proper thumbnails ideas, your printed final and a copy saved to the correct folder in your block)

Using only nine panels as shown to you in class and in the example to the right, you need to
successfully illustrate a process or given description.

  1. Mr. Juul will assign you a process or description.
  2. You need to create a storyboard or thumbnail blueprint for your task.
  3. You will need to solve how best to illustrate your process or descriptions to best
    maximize the message.
  4. Go over your ideas with your group Art Director and / or Mr. Juul
  5. Using 9 to 12 symmetrical panels, create a 14"w x 8.5"h canvas in Photoshop. 300dpi
  6. Using one dominant design style (cartoons, pictograms, silhouettes, symbols) create
your process according to your thumbnail blueprints
  7. Have fun! Many of these have wound up being classics within the class. Check your
block folder for a file named (PICTOGRAM PROCESS EXAMPLES) for some past
    student work on this project.
